WHAT LIES BENEATH - Maastricht, January 2020
A Multimedia Storytelling Event entailing the process of Bleeding, Being and Becoming –

I AM THE BLACK BIRD, THE EROTIC, THE HEDONIST, THE ONE WHO OBSERVES FROM AFAR. THE JAGUAR. THAT RUNS AFTER ITS PREY INTO THE DARKNESS. RUNNING AFTER ITS DESIRES IN ITS HUNGER FOR FLESH, SWEAT AND BONES. I CAN SMELL THE SEX OFF OF PEOPLE. PHEROMONES, MANGOES, PLUMS AND TONGUES..’

IT SEEMS I AM THAT HUNGRY FOR WHAT I DESIRE. TO KNOW THAT THIS INSATIABLE HUNGER, CAN ONLY BE SATISFIED, BY THOSE DARING TO LIVE. THOSE WHO CAN DANCE, FLIRT AND LOVE WITHOUT INTIMIDATION.
I CANNOT DENY THIS PART OF ME ANY LONGER.
THIS GROWING HUNGER FOR THE BODY, IS LIKE THE WAY THE MOON SINGS TO THE SUN
IT IS IN THE CURL OF MY TONGUE. AND THE WAY MY WORDS PERFORM BALLET UPON MY GUMS AND DISPERSES ITSELF THROUGH MY MOUTH….

Storytelling through Poetry, acommpanied by Simon VAN GOGH on Guitar.
A Storytelling Session, from dark to light, journeying through poem by poem, alongside Simon with Spanish and Indian chords on Guitar. Something that I explored in 2021 and the last years, was taking the jump into collobarating with other Artists. Having instruments be a backdrop to my work, Music which guide the Poems, the story which is developed poem by poem as I recite. When I say I storytell, I mean, I create. I share with you the story of that Seasons process, the process through which usually has enveloped different shades of hurt, hope, grief, strength, and love. I always adore the process of collobaration, often it is done using the improvisation skills of the Artist themselves, in this case Simons musical excellence was displayed when he played, he was able to play in the different chords which I feel really embody the emotion of specific poems. They encapsulate say the cultural grief of one poem, to the beauty and playfulness of another, both different poems, but both meshing together.

ALBUM - INVOCATION TO VENUS
World Peng Productions
This collaborative project represents a cyber age update of prayer and ritual, a modern adaptation of an ancient practice.
Listen my friends, listen and bathe your heart in the love of the supreme lady.
As part of my Former Art Collective, me and my team had a grant funded to us to Produce a Show for Valentines Day in Canterbury, UK, in Ode to Venus, however due to my Work in Stem Cell Therapy in the Netherlands, I was not able to be be there in Person. The plan was to have my Poems dubbed into the Show, over Live music produced by my fellow Artists in World Peng. The show went on, however I heard nothing of it, until a year later, whilst travelling in Morrocco I recieved this Mix, by Humble Pious. He produced Invocation to Venus without my acknowledgement, and this was the magic that came out of it.

MUSEUM NACHT - BLIND DANCE 2019
MuseumNacht 2019 – Blind Dance Choreographed by Mami Izumi for MuseumNacht at Centre Ceramique Maastricht.
BLIND WALK
Blind Walk by Mami Izumi is a disarming movement performance that touches and strange. What is space? How does this feel when you’re blind? And what does that do to your way of moving? A number of performers move blindly between the museum night audience for two hours. As a visitor you are unexpectedly part of this unique performance.

Storytelling Colloborative Performance
Home of Love by Love Foundation - Maastricht, Netherlands, December 2019
Myself and Parth Chauhan, weaved a set of Poems into a Story alongside his Voice and Guitar taking the Listeners on a Journey. We intentionally chose to weave our mother tongues Urdu/ Hindi into the mix, as an experimental and improvised touch to match the feeling of the Poems that were chosen. Being able to bring in another language, my own mother tongue was an incredibly intimate experience for me, but also was received so well in the crowd. Urdu/Hindi sung is an experience to the ears, and Parth’s voice was divine. The Storytelling through Poetry and Parth’s singing unfolded as a path of Dark to Light, with moments of hope amongst deep pain. I will forever remember this gathering, how packed the venue was, and how moved the crowd was.
I look forward to collaborating with Parth in the future. Parth has released new music, which you can also check out on his Instagram. He has since returned to his home country, India, where he is a successful Artist.
This event was done across two Venues in Maastricht, whereby the Crowd was moved from one venue to the other, across the Night. It was curated beautifully, and the feeling of the night was heartfelt.

MOVIE - CUERPOS - TRIANA SEGOVIA - 2021
I participated in Triana Segovia video project. We were asked the concept of ; ” How does your Body feel like Home? If the skin we have is the only thing that really belongs to us, the only walls to which we return everyday, how would you express yourself in that? /¿ Como sientes tu cuerpo como hogar? es decir, si la piel que tenemos es lo único que realmente nos pertence las única paredes a las que cada día regresamos, como lo expresarían?
So to the shoot we had to explore this:
I bought my writing books, my passport, my poems, I danced, I got them to display a Moon, the Window from my childhood, I bought headphones to the shoot and wore them for one scene, : laying back and listening to music.

Poetry Reading
I remember performing at this event, being completely shredded in my Spirit. I struggled to attend this event, struggled to practise or rehearse, I remember the difficult walking to the event, then to say hello to people. I was dead inside. So much was happening. I felt I was dragging my heavy body, I had broken down several times. This period was I think a glimpse of the darker moments in my Life. Everything was going black around me. I felt ‘surely this cannot be happening’, I was in turmoil inside of myself. Surviving. I remember the crowd was beautiful. Small, but I recognised friends, and familiar faces from Maastricht. People had their eyes closed and things felt intimate and private. I remember there was a pianist that played before me. It was moving. In the crowd, one of my close friends at the time, attended the event and came with her father. She took these photos. I also had another photo taken with another friend. I remember the pain I was in, I struggled to attend these events, struggling to show up in any sort of social setting, because the pain was so heavy and so confusing. As if I was in the different planet, I remember the difficulty I had in even showing my face. My insides felt torn, I remember this moment so specifically. Seeing these photos now, it still suprises me. Theres so much going on here, in my life and being, and there I am, somehow sharing these words. But in Agony. Here, im torn. I remember the intimacy in the crowd, yes, it was personal. People heard me. A woman, I believe the mother of this brilliant pianist, said to me ‘she would buy my book, if I had one there’, I remember being thrown off by this comment. Suprised at what she had said. It made me wonder….. Contrasts eh.

POETRY EVENING
I remember having recently just got the all clear for my Tumor the second time. The Mystery tumor of mine, that the hospitals here couldn’t explain to me what on earth was going on. I’m a student of pharmacology and physiology, who works in Stem cell therapy, CAR-T therapy, a woman whos had Endometriosis for the last 10 years, and have studied, read every article, video, book, youtube video, lived expereince of 11 years of experimentation, had multiple surgeries, have been at the patients seat in front of the Doctors Office seeing Gynaecologists, Endometriosis Specialists, Surgeons, my General Practictioner, the Emergency Appointments, the A&E visits for over a decade. When noone could explain what had happened with my “missing tumor”, I was dissociated, confused what had happened to my body, I knew, but my science brain went into loops. The Specialists could tell me anything, not “oh it could be fibroids?”, “Couldn’ve been a cyst?”/ Oh no. Nothing of the sort. Just complete denial, of the last 3 months of heavy testing, probing, poking. My body didn’t feel safe after that appointment. I was confused. Severely confused. I was in pain, had still been in and out of the hospital, getting testing and probed in my Gut.
Here, I though I was defeated, and actually what became one of my lasts shows I did for a long period of time, was a Series of Poems of Hope. I now can observe, that amongst all the horror and painful writing, there was a moments of hope. Glimpses of all that was beautiful. Whatever I was moved by at the time, usually people, always people and their hearts, my friendships, nature, a certain flow, a certain love. These poems became ‘Godly Poems’ as I see now. These striking moments of Perseverance and they are shockingly beautiful. ‘Hermaphrodite’ is one of these poems, or ‘Cookin’ Soul’ , ‘Vivid’, ‘Pure’, ‘The Glory in Death’/ I love them.

POETIC PHONETICS - Poetry & Open Mic Nights 2018 & 2019
Organised and hosted by Me @Venues across Maastricht.
During the years of 2018 and 2019, I hosted my own Poetry and Open Mic Nights, to bring a platform for new, upcoming and experienced Poets, and Musicians to come and perform their pieces. Whether they be complete new beginners who were wanting to build their confidence, and perform for the first time, or for those who were developed Artists and Musicians, with published Poetry books who were looking to share their Work. Poetic Phonetics, became a beautiful hub and safe space for sharing the innermost workings of peoples minds, and hearts. These Poetry events were hosted mainly at the FoodBank space in the Landbouwbelang, on a Weekday evening, and would fill with students and non-students alike, a cultural hub which attracted a beautiful crowd. On other occasions it was also hosted at the Mandril Political and Cultural Centre also hosted in Maastricht.
POETRY AUDIO-VISUAL PROJECT -2023
Experimental Poetry/ Visual / Audio blend of the Journey on the Path back to Self. Whilst in a lot of mental and physical turmoil, I spent time in Guatemala, where I was able to heal a lot from the Nature I was so closely living with. Through this time, I mean forever really, i've used writing as a means to process and purge up the pains that come from me. In the last 7 years I've explored the many ways in which my Poetry can be shared. I've experimented mostly through my collaborations, with different artists, live music, pre-recorded work, freestyling in the studio, writing and performing for other peoples projects
But I noticed across the years, some of my earlier projects I had very little say, in the final edits. So the Sound of them, would not be to my taste, today. But they are bodies of work nonethless, that have been the soil of which has allowed me to seek our a Sound that is Me.
Over the last few years, Seeking my Sound, and experimenting, I have been recording audio, for years of my surroundings, conversations, laughter, and random things I find to catch my ears.
I've been playing with Visuals,
I especially became fascinated by the songs of birds the last 5 years, whilst travelling through Guatemala.
With capturing moments, through the lens, both photography and videography.

STORYTIME: During my Final Year of University, I was working a part time job on the weekend to be able to cover my Expenses, that weren’t covered by the Student Finance Scheme. I was known as the ‘Insurance Queen’, because I had the flair to be able to sell anything and I would strike up a conversation with all my customers. One day, Jake Weekes came in with his Son, asking for some support in buying Bluetooth Headphones. His son chirped in, with the specifics with what he wanted and found his Father Jake, to be repeating what his Son wanted. I began giggling, but Jake made a comment about being ‘old’ and I ended up on a rant about technology and kids.
I ended the conversation with “Don’t listen to me, i’m a Poet”, to which he responded, “Oh I am a Record label, and we are looking for a Poet for our Album”. From there I left my details, which weren’t specific. But I ended up recieving a Message, I shared my Poetry blog, to which had access to all my Poems.
We organised a Meet- Up, we discussed his Collective and their work, and that they had produced several improvised Tracks. They had read my Poetry, and they wanted me to write for them. I was in shock, asked for a theme, but they gave me free Liberty.
When I listened to the whole Album for the first time, I found myself feeling as if the Story of an Alien/ Human had just landed on Earth for the first time, and had to face the Tragedies of Earth, including disillusion and Media. Discovering the treasures of Knowledge, Jewels, God, and the Sun, in the East. I continued to Write.
We then spent Months during my final year of University, in the Studio, both improvising but also pulling from past Poems of Mine. I didn’t get a final say in the way it was edited and produced, but it will always be a body of Work I’m proud of.

WINNERS OF UKYA PRIZE AT UNISLAM POETRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018
UniSlam is the UK National University Poetry Slam and Summit, bringing together teams of poets from university communities across the UK and Ireland to take part in a comprehensive programme of development workshops and to compete in one of the most exciting slams in the British spoken word calendar.
The 2018 event brought together 23 teams from all over the UK and Ireland for a weekend of poetry slams and workshops. This was the first year that the University of Kent had put up a team and we were ably represented by Alice Gretton (SECL and School of Arts), Steven Humber (School of Arts), Katrine Lynn Solvaag (School of English), Calum Collins (School of English), and Ameera-Aftabi Razak (School of Pharmacy). The team was coached by Kent alumni and celebrated performance poet Dan Simpson and under his tutelage they breezed through the preliminary rounds at De Montfort University. We competed against 23 teams and came 3rd place. .
UKYA PROJECTS:
Winners of UKYA Prize at UniSlam 2018 representing the University of Kent. The team composes of Katrine Lynn Solvaag, Calum Collins. Steven Humber, Alice Gretton and Ameera-Aftabi Razak (aka. Malanghi Arts). With each their own quirky approach to performance poetry, heartfelt poems about loss and displacement to humorous pieces tackling first love, repetitive traits of spoken word poetry and an inability to grow a beard, together the team represents the best of the current Canterbury poetry scene. As we noted earlier our work spans the comedic to the tragic. Two of our performers are rooted in comedy, combining the absurd with the relatable. One performer struggles with the quest to grow a beard while another mocks the very form of slam poetry itself. We tackle difficult subjects such as sexual assault and the displacement of minorities with a style that never falls into a stereotypical American ‘slam poetry’ voice. During Unislam we coached by former Canterbury Poet Laureate Dan Simpson who challenged us every step of the way to improve ourselves
