There is a world that exists outside these borders, not far from here where beating your children is acceptable. There is a place not so far from here where abusing your children is second nature, whether you are psychologically tainting your children, verbally abusing or physically degrading your child is normal. A place where cultural constructs are placed deep into our lives, where every bone in your body has to obey to the word. And religious manipulation an alienation of our minds begins. Not so far from here, there are families who are ignorant of this, they do not believe that this could possibly could happen, while in other parts there are those who do know but will be blind to it. There is a place not so far from it, where there are doctors seem to be blind to the bruises, the bouts of broken noses, and depression which won’t shift through therapy. Where your weight being as low as a 13 year old is acceptable and goes unnoticed, despite the health problems, despite the ptsd. Where teachers force kids into detention and believe we are not studying hard enough, when our grades suddenly fall. That even after a resit year, they do not understand that there is trauma in the home. A place where Social Services believe the parents over the child, and despite the calls of horror they believe in the widow story line. A place where the police will only take action if they see a physical act in front of the eyes and the bruise or blood is apparent.
The world we live in is a destructive place, and I have never been so afraid for other people who too have suffered abuse. This is a cold world, where the support for abuse is none. Let’s help change that.
