Brown Girl

I am every brown girl that lived,
who suffered as a child
and still suffers till today.

I am every brown girl,
who’s had her family ripped to shreds,
her home slaughtered from its roots
her tongue stolen from her mouth,
her people humiliated
for the mere fact that they believe in God
and for their golden skin

I am every brown girl,
who’s ever had their name mispronounced
because they’re white lazy english is too broken to be spoken on
for their tongues lay crooked
and their minds do not understand

to be the outkast in your class,
because your skin was darker,
because you had humility,
and had respect for your family,
and understood that family is more than just your own blood

For every brown person killed
I mourn,
as if a thousand nights haven’t passed
I mourn,
because its always my people who die
its always our people who die
and they will always die
nobody saves us
nobody will ever save us

and we will always be the truthful ones
we will always remain truthful.
