Eid Al-Adha

now tell me,
which vessel of grief should I fill today?
the rose?
in all its petals, turning red from the pain,
the lungs? full of water, now collapsed,
Maybe an empty body, fill it with blood,
recreate life out of the affliction,
cement the ground,
to create new paths to walk across,
a heart, covered in ashes now pumping,
the legs that walked, now running,

where should I turn to, Most Benevolant?
which arms should I fall into today?
In sujood I lay, weeping,
but today is a day of celebration,
let there be joyous fountains of wine pouring from vases,
let there be light in the graves,
let there be peace,
and let the hajjuj be mighty in their pilgrimage.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,
eid Mubarak.
