Omelette

Yesterday we laughed,
like the crack of dawn creaking through at fajr time,
amalgamation of sadness, curiosity, anger,
how the night separates into the day,
and the birds begin to wake up from their drunkness,
intoxicated by the stars in the night,
that was how I fell when I first with him,
cycling, staring into the sky, and boom,
a bush met me, and I collapsed into it,
I fell,
We laughed,

Yet here we are seven months later,
In prison, behind bars I have created for myself,
For protection,
Only watching, never touching
yet still laughing
knowing very well I will not return,
He snakes his tongue out at me,
we crack smiles like eggs smashing,
omelette cannot be made,
nothing good will come from this,
His head ticking away like a pendulum clock striking,
I see his sadness, head down, his thumbs like thimbles,

Now I miss him,
and I laugh.

Bridges,
we are all bridges,
and I love him,
but now in a different way.
