Betrayal

To belong, is to believe that your existence has worth in the environment around you
” to be a member of…”
my people were never taken into account when they wrote this definition
they molded it redefined it and altered it subtly, never revealing the repercussions or the toll it would take
growing up on mere pollution from the media
I hoisted my groins deep into the world that taught me my skin was to differ me from others
that it would alter me from the world
As a 9 year old, my eyes wide open to hell. Silence fell upon my ears.
Silence realmed every crevasse, and I began to wonder why it was so loud
as a child I was never taught to believe that I was beautiful as a child
society had conditioned me to believe that I had to alter the way of my tongue
to please those who could not speak
with ashes upon their lips, they molested my mind
this lazy english, which I write in, still wasnt enough
so they searched deeper, inspecting every ounce of my soul
seeping further into my blood, they raked my heart and turned it black
this society that claims to uphold such diversity made my heart sick, and my brain finally froze
pattering potions of beauty, with fragrances only they can suit
my hair which had embedded the night sky grew faint in the lies it was told
my skin colour held colours of golden brown, which glimmered in the sun, suffered from an illness
my blood froze, and my veins which laid a trail followed

yet they have the audacity to trivialize my culture and appropriate it to something which is not yours
why steal mine? you told me I was wrong.
how could I have belonged when my mere existence was wrong

because I died before I ever began to live.
