Modesty?

skin estranged from body,
I remain conflicted,
my own body a maze,
a jigzaw puzzle :
trying to put together limbs that were lost,
my skin is a sin they say,
don’t laugh too loud or smile,
men won’t marry you,

they made me believe my gift of skin was to be covered
so now I sit in summer days hidden behind doors,
because I am afraid to step out,
I weep at the loss of my own body,

I am reclaiming what they took from me.

They should be ashamed,
for believing in things blindly,
and spreading lies.

Gold Skin, shine.
