The Gift of the Pen

the gift of the pen
oh how mighty I must be to be in ownership of such a thing
how privileged I must be to hold this as my own
the gift of ink and scripts
wisdom and acts of freedom
To have the ability to write from right to left
And read from left to write in another tongue
Oh how mighty I must be to be in ownership of such a thing
this yearning,
this hunger for knowing more
this growing pain I have for more, read more, learn more
sit up straight, don’t be late, be on time, ask before being spoken to,

I find the cursives I write in are more free now,
I find making mistakes is fine now,
you are allowed to learn slowly, its okay if you don’t get it
having broadened my horizons with this privelage of mine
I have learnt to embrace and welcome it with open arms
having gained a knew depth of what is knowledge and wisdom
I find my hands digging into new soil
new land, new words, a new tongue
murmering and humming a new song of the earth

Oh how mighy I must be to be in ownership of such a thing
the beauty of knowledge and the privelage it is to be educated

the gift of the pen should be given to all,
not just to those who ask .
