Tu Kareemi, Mun Kameena

what a life you must’ve lived,
to have cherry drop tears wash me over everyday,
a river forms a baptism for me,
I embody its space,
submerged in a memory,
dotted time spans, splitting timelines,
ours cut just recently,
an umbilical cord passed on the wrong generation,
but created a mother in you I will forever be searching for,
trees do not give me peace anymore,
the grass just hears me weeping,
the ground holds me in its embrace,
the sun and the moon watch over me, a tired couple who cannot help any longer,
they send messages to the angels who are appointed to the seventh heaven,
I wonder what the Almighty thinks,
well aware of the fight in me?
but yet I am in harmony,
polar opposites,
embedded into heart,
both joy and blank,

a sacrifice,
but you lost nothing,
you gave in alms of mangoes, dates, feathers, fig trees,
you gave me what they could never,
wilted I slowly become,
a strong oak tree I become,
treacherous warrior I become,
when I remember that you are not still here,
you are yet a figment of imagination,
fantasy,
madness realms once more,

Tu Kareemi, mun kameena, burda um,
You, the gracious one, and I the ignoble, standing at your door,
Laikin uz latf-e shuma parwarda um
You are my cherisher
Zindagi aamada bbara’ay bandagi
my life’s purpose is divine devotion
